Primary Maths Collaborative Lesson Reflection and Planning for ITE

There are two termly opportunities to join Mastery Specialist Teachers to take part in collaborative lesson reflection and planning. Once registered you will be able to access the online video for ten days after each session.

Autumn Term 2021

Tuesday 9th November 4pm – 5pm

Session 1 – Multiplicative Reasoning – A journey of division from Y1 to Y6 using a mastery approach. This session will support the development of your understanding of the 5 big ideas of Teaching for Mastery with a focus on how these can be applied to linking multiplication with the teaching of division. Division can be a difficult area of the Primary Curriculum to teach with understanding and this session will enhance your pedagogy and explore ways to secure deep understanding. The session will run from 4pm – 5pm and then I will remain available after the session to answer any questions or offer further advice.

Tuesday 30th November 4pm – 5pm

Session 2 – A lesson study in teaching division. This session will offer an opportunity to think about planning a Y3/4 division lesson in depth. It is an opportunity to consider the carefully crafted small steps within the lesson and how the 5 big ideas of Teaching for Mastery are used in a lesson. The session will run from 4pm – 5pm and then I will remain available after the session to answer any questions or offer further advice.

Spring Term 2022

Tuesday 1st February 2022 4pm – 5pm

Session 1 – An introduction to Mastery in Fractions. This session will support the development of your understanding in the 5 big ideas of Teaching for Mastery with a focus on how these can be applied to the teaching to of Fractions. Fractions is one of the most abstract and difficult areas of the Primary Curriculum and this session will enhance your pedagogy and take you on a journey from Year 1 all the way up to Year 6. The session will run from 4pm – 5pm and then I will remain available after the session to answer any questions or offer further advice.

Tuesday 22nd February 2022 4pm – 5pm

Session 2 – A lesson study in teaching Fractions. This session will offer an opportunity to watch and dissect a recorded Fractions lesson. It is an opportunity to identify the carefully crafted small steps within the lesson and how the 5 big ideas of Teaching for Mastery are used in a lesson. The session will run from 4pm – 5pm and then I will remain available after the session to answer any questions or offer further advice.

Summer Term 2022

Thursday 5th May 2022 4pm – 5pm

Session 1 -This session aims to give a brief, research based, overview about the importance of spatial reasoning and visualisation in developing a firm understanding of geometry.  We will also consider some practical ways of how you can incorporate this in your teaching using rich tasks. The session will run from 4pm – 5pm and then I will remain available after the session to answer any questions or offer further advice.

Wednesday 8th June 2022 4pm – 5pm

Session 2 – As a follow up to session 1 we will consider different approaches and activities that could be used in teaching geometry and evaluate their impact on the outcomes for children. The session will run from 4pm – 5pm and then I will remain available after the session to answer any questions or offer further advice.
